As some of you may be aware that email being sent to the sauron.org.uk domain
is being bounced, this is because I have been trying to move the domain to
a new host so that I can use www.sauron.org.uk instead of
www.sauron.uklinux.net.
Let just say that the transition has gone a bit Pete Tong, and now the domain
has become detagged. I am now trying to reinstate the domain which is not
as easy as it sounds.
So, can you direct all correspondences to
simon.horton@earthling.net.
Sauron Web Update
Well I have almost finished the version 0.1.0 of Sauron Web and should be
available to download very shortly.

Another Sauron Web Update |
|
Sunday 10th of March 2002 by
Simon
I\'m still testing the Sauron Web modules, and have made some improvements on the forum
module. I have also had to change how the html is presented, so the pages look the
same in both Netscape & IE.
I think the new html layout is better, I\'m no presentation expert and I\'m sure I could
do better.
The screens shots have been updated, so go and have a peek ( the latter word always
reminds me of a ZX81 ).

Click the more link to view the updated screen shots..

Starting Sauron Linux From The Command Line |
|
Wednesday 27th of February 2002 by
Simon
I have had a couple of people over the last day or so, ask how to start Sauron from the command line, so if any is wondering then this is what you do
To start sauron from the command line and assuming you didn\'t change any of the
install defaults, you should able to do the following:
cd /usr/local/sauron/bin
./sauron.sh
this should kick Sauron off for whatever user your logged into your Linux box
as.
Also, if the install went without any problems, a new user should have been
created under the username: sysop pw: sysop
if you log in as this user, Sauron should automatically start and all that this
user will have access to is Sauron until he/she logs out of Linux box via
Sauron\'s command menus

Sauron Linux BBS Source Released |
|
Tuesday 20th of November 2001 by
Simon Horton
Well I have finally released the source to Sauron Linux BBS and the Sauron Linux BBS Add User utility; they are both written in Pascal and you will need to download the Linux compiler from www.freepascal.org.
The sources comes with no instructions as I had no time really to note anything down, to compile the sources just run the following make command:
make | make install | make clean
Email me with any questions, I will endeavor to answer as soon as possible.
Thanks…. [more] |

OOPS, I have discovered a major gremlin in the user authentication and security module, which all of the Sauron Web modules link too.
This will require a re-think and rewrite of the user module, unfortunately this will delay the demo I was hoping to get online.
On another note, I was hoping to clean up the source code for Sauron Linux before I released it, but due to time and the fact I can not be bothered any more, I will make it available for download in its current state..

Well Sauron Web is continuing and there will soon be an online demo of version 0.0.2, so watch this space for further developements.
Sauron Web
will be a complete web based BBS, with message boards, file downloads, etc... The idea is to have a completely modular system with as many different boards
as the sysop requires. The whole system is written in php 4.0 and Mysql and will be released under GPL
I\'m always looking for ideas, if anyone has any suggestions, please email sauron.web@sauron.org.uk

I am no longer going to continue the development of Sauron Linux BBS; I have made this decision on a number of factors, mainly that the demand for BBS software has fallen and the continuing growth of the internet. With this in mind, I will now concentrate on Sauron Web the web based BBS.
I will continue to support users of Sauron Linux and Sauron DOS for the near future and I will soon post the remaining source code for download.
Please feel free to contact me.

Welcome to the new look Sauron BBS web site, the site is built using the current modules available from Sauron Web 0.0.1. To be perfectly truthfull I'm not sure if the layout of the new site works, it looks far to busy; tell me what you think.Anyway, as Sauron Web continues to develope I intend to merge it in to this site.

The SMT utility for Sauron Linux BBS is still being developed and a download should be available soon.
There have been reported bugs in the Sadduser utility, this is being looked into.
Also being developed is a web based BBS using php, a new website for Sauron is being constructed using this new system.
